Avengers/Audiences
1) who is the target audience for the avengers
The target audience for the avengers was working-class, white ,30's-50's because of watershed it was aimed for an older audience and had stronger scenes e.g storylines violence
2) how did the avengers appeal to the audience
The avengers offered escapism through a world of humour sexual tension and eroticism. it also offered an entertaining combination of repetition and difference with new Proppain villain each week. It would appel to the audience as even though its repetitive its a new setting and characters each week.
3) how did the social cultural and historical contexts affect audiences
In the 1960's there was an increase in spy films with the first a second James bond films audiences will become more familiar with that convention they will be able to recognise Propps theories characters e.g villain, hero and helper.
In the 1960's their was a rise in gender equality as women and men both had job roles as a result avengers had Emma Peel as one of the protagonists with a man and even though she did help the main protagonists she was also seen as a smart individual which figured out clues.
In 1960's there was a rise in women empowerment which is reflected through Emma Peel as in past years she would've had a less significant role but she is one of the main protagonists. Even though she was a main protagonists there are still stereotypes which they stuck to ask she was the male's protagonists helper and she wore tight clothing.
4)what is a passive audience and how could they interpret avengers
A passive audience just consumes media doesn't react or argue. In Avengers they would just believe anything that they watch they wouldn't challenge it. For example When Mr Small had died and found the body they might accept it and not have any emotions to it or when Emma Peel nearly by the villain by managed to escaped.
