WHY / HOW DO WE CONSUME MEDIA


  • The use of gratifications theory assumes audience actively seek out media to satisfy individual needs
  • passive audience- unable to form opinions/interpret when consuming media texts 
  • active audience- are able to interpret media texts and form their own opinions when consuming media 
One type of media I used today before school was messages as I message Evie every morning to ask her when she will be at school and to chat to her on my way to school. - To Interact/Information

  • gaining a sense of security through knowledge

ENTERTAINMENT 

  • escapism, or being diverted from problems
  • relaxing
